Purpose of the Scheme

The Employer Mentoring Scheme aims to pair students with local employers in order to enhance the employability of participating students by:

  • Developing their confidence in the workplace
  • Improving their workplace skills and professionalism
  • Giving them an insight into how an organisation works
  • Enhancing their job application material and interview performance
  • Giving them an opportunity to develop networks amongst local employers

The scheme also aims to contribute towards your professional development through both the mentoring skills training you will receive and the relationship you will develop with your student mentee.

In order to ensure that mentors and mentees gain the maximum possible benefit from this scheme, both parties will receive training. For mentors, this will consist of on-line training supported by optional afternoon and evening workshops.

  • You will meet your mentee on at least six occasions. There is flexibility for some of these meetings to be via email, skype or telephone contact
  • Meetings will normally take place at the mentorís place of work. Rooms may also be booked for meetings at the University.
  • You will inform the scheme co-ordinator immediately should difficulties arise e.g. a breakdown of communication with your mentee

We are looking forward to working with you and hope that you find the experience both challenging and rewarding.
